Pierre's Ice Cream Company declares March
Sorbet Month
Cleveland, OH March 10, 2010 It's March.
Spring is just days away and, after several weeks of winter, most
everyone could use a tantalizing “Taste of Sunshine.” For
this reason and many more, Pierre's Ice Cream has declared
the month of March Sorbet Month!
“Sorbet is a refreshingly flavorful fat free, cholesterol
free and dairy free frozen treat,” said Pierre's spokesperson
Matt Thornicroft. “It has survived the test of time as a
favorite dessert and, with March being National Nutrition Month,
is a fine alternative for people looking to reduce the amount of
fat and cholesterol in their diets. Plus, after months of wintry
weather and overcast skies, everyone could probably use a little
sunshine just about now.”
Sorbet's (pronounced “sor-BAY”) history dates
back to ancient times, when kings and emperors lavished themselves
with frozen desserts made of mountain snow flavored with juices
and honey. King Solomon was written to have enjoyed iced drinks
during harvesting. Alexander the Great was fond of snow and ice
flavored with honey and nectar. Roman Emperor Nero (A.D. 54-86)
is known to have sent runners into the mountains for snow, which
was flavored with fruits and juices (Source: International Dairy
Foods Association: The History of Ice Cream).
Sorbet contains no fat or diary ingredients and is made from pureed
fresh fruit and water. Sherbets (pronounced “SHER-bet”)
contain 1-2 percent milkfat. Often served as a treat between courses
at formal dinners, Sorbets are also popular for desserts and drink
recipes. They make a great alternative for people with milk allergies
or those watching their fat content.
Sorbet has been a part of Pierre's famous lineup of frozen
desserts since 1997. Made with the finest ingredients and fresh
fruit purees, Pierre's Sorbet is naturally fat free and cholesterol
free, and dairy free. Pierre's Sorbets are certified Kosher
Parve and come in six smooth and refreshing flavors: Chocolate,
Lemon, Passion Fruit, Peach, Raspberry and Strawberry. They contain
just 100-140 calories per half cup serving.
Pierre's created its sorbet in response to increasing consumer
demand for great-tasting, low-fat frozen dessert alternatives.
The first Pierre's Sorbets were created in 1997. Offering “A
Taste of Sunshine” in every spoonful, Pierre's Sorbets
have become a popular favorite in Greater Cleveland and beyond,
including New Jersey.
